Hello Kitty Bento

Ninety-six hours. Ninety-six blasted hours of primitive living in our electricity-free household. I’d say water-free too, but we actually had running water back in the house when I woke up this morning. Still no electricity when I left the house at around 8 this morning though. Fantabulous way to start the week, isn’t it?

Because we didn’t have a working refrigerator, I had to cook most of my bento supplies over the weekend before they went bad. Some however, like my ground chicken, frozen veggies, kani surimi, fancy fishball stash, and fruits in syrup went bad before I could get to them. Add that to the fact that we had no running water, and no electricity = living hell. It was a wonder I was even able to prepare bento today, but I figured I needed cheering up. Time to break out the cuteness!

Hello Kitty Bento

Bento #70 • 3 October 2006

Red Tier:
Hello Kitty Macaroni, cooked in olive oil with chili pepper flakes, chopped hungarian sausages, fresh tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, and fresh basil. (Original version of the recipe, the one with tuyo, here.) On the sides are more Hungarian Sausages. I topped it with a sprig of basil to garnish.

Hello Kitty Pasta

Yellow Tier:
Mini-chocolate chip cookies, cheese cubes, and half a mini-mooncake.

Drink:
Hello Kitty Ramune!

Hi Emily! I bought the Hello Kitty pasta at a Japanese Grocery here in Manila called Hatchin. I’m not sure if it’s available online but I guess it’s worth checking on ebay? Hope you can find some, good luck!
