Aquaknox Restaurant: Vietnamese gone contemporary

For the main course, they brought out a large crab, cooked Cua Rang Moui Toi, aka Chef Danny’s Special Crab. The restaurant’s specialty, this dish featured pan-roasted crabs cooked in a savory blend of herbs and spices. You can have this served whole or flaked. Thankfully, they chose to serve us the flaked kind. Fortunate for me because I’m lousy with shellfish. One of our evening’s hosts, Carlo, insisted that we try it with the pasta.

Bong’s Vietnamese Pasta featured egg noodles shaped like spaghetti, sautéed in a garlicky-buttery sauce. While plain, the richness of the sauce was enough. No meat needed here. This was one instance of plain noodles being perfect. I did try it with the crab though and it does complement each other. Probably because of all that garlic.

Last came the Hanoi Fish, a pan-fried fish fillet (Labahita, I was told) served on a bed of glass noodles. Flaky-tender with just a lightly crisp surface and light seasoning, it allowed you to enjoy the fish without overpowering it with other flavors.

Settling down with a cup of coffee after all that food, I was satisfied. This definitely isn’t the Vietnamese cuisine I’m familiar with. But still, no complaints here. Traditional or contemporary, good food is good food. If you’re looking for something different, I suggest dropping by. Whether it’s for the cuisine or the snazzy ambiance, Aquaknox is sure to please.

Many thanks to Aquaknox, Francis and Carlo for the pleasant evening.

Well, not fastfood cheap but reasonably priced for what you get. Methinks 500 per head or less? Their webby has prices listed, you may want to check it out if you’re curious.
