Ever had a kitchen experiment fail on you? I have. Many, many times. What you see on this blog features only a fraction of what goes on behind the scenes. I’m not one to shy away from failure, so today, you get to see one of them!
See those eggs? That’s an attempt at a poached egg with a star-shaped yolk. I’ve seen Japanese bento gadgets that do that. I thought I had a good grasp of the concept behind it though, so I gave it a shot. It didn’t go the way I planned it, but hey, there shall be future experiments. So in the meantime, I have to eat weird looking eggs. Fortunately, they taste like ordinary poached eggs, so other than the uncute appearance, there was no harm done.
Aside from the funny-looking poached eggs, this bento has garlic fried rice, tocino, sliced tomatoes and ube jam. Hey, it’s not too pretty, but it was a filling, yummy dinner. I don’t think you can go wrong with tocino and fried rice. Hopefully, the next shaped poached egg experiment works better.
