DIY Butterbeer Latte

It’s cold, it’s raining, and it’s Harry Potter’s birthday! Wouldn’t it be great to snuggle in bed with a copy of Harry Potter and a mug of butterbeer latte? This recipe from has been floating around Tumblr for a while already but it still hasn’t lost its charm. (Probably charmed by Professor Flitwick himself.)

Butterbeer Latte

Happy birthday, Harry!

The recipe’s easy enough to follow. You don’t need magic to whip it up. And I daresay it’s the more interesting way to drink your butter. (Coffeeholic that I am, I still can’t wrap my brain around the concept of bulletproof coffee.) Now go scamper around your kitchen and whip up a mugful. But remember to greet Harry. First sip’s for him!

Butterbeer Latte
Serves 1.

  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • a dash of cinnamon
  1. In a heavy saucepan, combine butter and brown sugar, and melt over low heat. Don’t stir, it can cause your caramel to solidify. Just swirl gently if it’s not melting evenly. Otherwise, patience is key.
  2. Add your milk, vanilla and cinnamon. Stir.
  3. Heat until almost boiling then pour into a mug and serve. The original recipe says to boil it, but I’d heat it to just before, to avoid scalding the milk.

Too lazy to try it? Why not customize a Butterbeer Frappucino from Starbucks instead?

  1. Thank you for sharing the recipe! I’m not a big cinnamon fan but I can see how that can make a difference in this case!

I’m definitely trying it out! But won’t 1 tsp vanilla make the drink too bitter?
