May holds a significant date for Kitchen Cow. On the third of May in 2006, my first blog post featuring a shoddily taken photo of rice, fish fillet and some veggies in a bento box went live. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking, informative, or thought-provoking. It was just a photo of rice and fish in a lunchbox. Little did I know that that first post would be the start of this 8-year old food blog.
This relationship has had its high and low points. The highs were really high, while the lows were mostly me tearing my hair and questioning whether I should continue blogging. Well, the blog is still here. There may have been the occasional hiatus or two, but it’s still here. It’s a little bit late, but it’s still reason enough to celebrate, right? And yes, I equate blog celebrating with raffling off stuff, so… yay?
First: A Bento Giveaway
While I don’t prepare as much bento as I should nowadays (and the times I do don’t get photographed anymore), I will still go with tradition and include a bento package, just because I can.
Second: A paperback copy of All’s Fair in Blog and War
I confess. I’m not blogging as much as I should because writing fiction takes up much of my time these days. I know it’s not exactly food-related, but I wouldn’t have been able to publish my first book, All’s Fair in Blog and War if it weren’t for Kitchen Cow. Why? Because the background material for the story was culled from my own Macau Familiarization trip, as documented here:
Kao Eats Macau: Little Turtle’s Fried Noodles
Kao Eats Macau: City of Dreams and Miramar
Kao Eats Macau: Red Market and Ristorante Litoral
Kao Eats Macau: Macau Military Club and 360-degree Cafe
Kao Eats Macau: Margaret’s Cafe e Nata and Antonio’s
Third: Homemade Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies
A lot of times, people complain that the food posts give them cravings at inopportune times. So this time, let me provide the food instead of the cravings. To sweeten this giveaway, I’m throwing in Homemade Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies, straight from our own kitchen, using my personal unpublished recipe. Yes. Bacon and chocolate. Together. In a cookie. Yours to eat.
While this giveaway may not be much in terms of monetary value, they’re particularly meaningful to me because these are all things I want to share with you guys. They’re things that make me happy, so I hope they can make you happy, too.
Thank you to everyone who has been with me on this wild ride. Here’s to more years of eating and writing about eating.
