A Very Yummy Evening at Tosca, Dusit Thani

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Fairly recently, I was lucky enough to be invited to a small Christmas gathering arranged by local food magazine Yummy. I was quite excited about it for two reasons. First, because I like Yummy magazine. I read and collect it for ideas and recipes. And second, because I hear Dusit Thani’s restaurants serve good food.

Potato Soup

Please sir, may I have more soup?

Making my way to Tosca, the hotel’s signature Italian restaurant, that evening, I was warmly welcomed by the Yummy crew. I was seated with Managing Editor Paulyn Chang-Afable and a few other blogger friends. We were having an animated conversation about our day jobs, blogging and food, but it all came to a halt as they brought out the soup course. One personal policy I have on Kitchen Cow is keeping things upbeat and positive. There’s already so much depressing news happening all over the world so I like keeping this blog a happy place where you can get your food fix. Still, this issue bothers me so much. I honestly still have mixed feelings about it. If you’re squeamish or eating food right now, please stop reading because this news is disgusting.

White Rabbit Update

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

White Rabbit, safe?It appears that I’m not the only person who was bothered by the formaldehyde-laced White Rabbits issue. I was sure a lot of Filipinos would respond, yes, but what surprised me was that people from other countries were likewise affected! I had no idea that White Rabbit had a strong international presence.

Recent news articles have come to the defense of our favorite creamy candy:

ONE of China’s best-known candies passed a safety test from the world’s leading certification company, SGS Group, the Shanghai-based candy producer said on its Website today.

The current regulation on candy production doesn’t have the amount of formaldehyde content in candies, said Xin Yuanqing, vice director of food supervision department under the Shanghai quality watchdog.

Guan Sheng Yuan pledged on its Website that no preservatives were added during the production of White Rabbit milk candies.
